Description

Delicious homemade sugar cookies that are soft and chewy.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Beat in egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and roll each in granulated sugar to coat.
  7. Place balls on prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is softened for easier creaming with sugar.
  • For a variation, consider adding chocolate chips or sprinkles.
